Allendale is well known for being the opposite of a party college; so opposite that we lose more people on weekends than we have visiting. Surprisingly, there are a decent bit of great bars in Allendale all along Lake Michigan Drive, which are being used by all the older folk and young families that secretly hate our guts. So the next time you’re thinking about heading to MSU for a party weekend, just hit up the ultimate Allendale bar crawl because the crawl is for all.
The bar crawl starts at Mully’s over on 48th street, the little corner pub in the Meadow’s strip. Start here with a shot or two, focusing on the specials of the night (The Black Sheep has a complete list of Mully’s specials for each day in print issues), and go to town. It’s a great place to start because it’s always filled with GV students from Meadows looking for a good time any day of the week. Pick up some friends there and catch the bus to the next crawl destination.

Head on over to Mug Shots next and get a long island iced tea with a beautifully stuffed, greasy burger to sop up all the alcohol.
This cute little hole-in-the-wall features mug shots (duh) of famous people during their time in jail. Play games with your slightly drunken friends to guess what each criminal did because bars and trivia always go hand in hand. What’s great is that there’s a bus stop, so get super turnt and stay safe during the crawl.
The next stop will be Meijer, where you can drunkenly peruse the aisles and buy a shit-ton of boxed wine to go drink in the parking lot. Even if Meijer isn’t technically a bar, you can turn it into one with some pretty awesome beer goggles and a bit of childish imagination. It’s also great because you’ll have everything you could possibly want to mix with and any type of liquor you could dream of.
The last stop we suggest for Allendale, after a long, drunken zombie crawl across the street, will take you to Shots. This bar, perfectly named for what you plan on doing, is great for putting the cherry on top of your great buzz. With the bus stop being so close, you can get as drunk as you want and hop on the bus and ride it around and around until you get kicked off at Grand Central Station.
