Last week we collected over 600 votes for the first round of the 2017 UIUC Drunk Food Tournament. After a week of competition, only four campus favorites survived. Unlike the Illini’s tournament chances, the remaining restaurants will have the opportunity to be crowned a champion this March.
Voting ends at 5 p.m. on Friday again, so get your votes in on who you think should be in the final round next week.
Green Street Division:
4.) Papa D’s:
Papa D’s won in the first round in arguably the biggest upset of the tournament. By over 100 votes the late-night upstairs restaurant and basement bar took down Wingin’ Out. The first-round showing likely gives Papa D’s the upper hand in the next round versus Chopstix.
UIUC students still haven’t come to terms with Cracked, the former food truck, becoming a real establishment on Green Street in the home of Antonio’s. Chopstix narrowly defeated Cracked in the closest of the first-round matchups, coming out on top by 41 votes.
The Rest of Campus Division:
4.) Insomnia Cookies:
Another 4-seed toppled the top seed in this matchup with Insomnia Cookies and Fat Sandwich. The uniqueness of Insomnia may give the cookie shop an inside track to the championship matchup.
2.) Merry Ann’s:
Merry Ann’s, and its 3 locations either on or around campus, was too much for Manolo’s in the largest blowout of the first round. This sets up an exciting matchup between late-night drunk breakfast food and cookies in this division’s final round.
