5 Most Memorable Moments from UMass this Year

UMass has had quite a year. As we leave the fateful academic year of 17-18, it’s only right to look back at the best moments of the past year.

5.) UMass football going undefeated in the month of October:
UMass athletics continued their poor showing throughout much of the year, but the month of October was a special time that deserves looking back on. Those two wins over Georgia Southern and Appalachian St. were among the most special times in any school’s history and put UMass on the map. Maybe next year, the month of October can propel UMass to maybe a 5 win season. But hey, probably not.

4.) The bee tailgate:
The bee tailgate was a wild time for the youth of UMass who like to chug Rubinoff and then throw it up later. Due to excessive twea drinking, all of the bees in western Massachusetts came to lot 22 to join in the party festivities. They were terrorizing students and players alike in the only way bees know how. Stingin’, baby. Hopefully next year we can have a vermin tailgate or something like that. Rats are cute, right?

3.) The Tinder mania of the Cardi B concert:
Keeping recency bias aside, the Tinder shenanigans that went down with the Cardi B concert should never be forgotten. All the swipin’ and typin’ brought the community together in a phenomenal way. Morale was never higher and the Cardi hype truly created a campus of inclusion. Think of all the babies that could have been made in honor of Cardi B if people actually did something about all of their matches.

2.) Lentil Night:
UMass dining has done a lot to earn there stamp as #1, but nothing was quite like lentil night. The night has its critics, the night has its downers but who doesn’t enjoy a good lentil every now and the– all the time? It was a magical time for everyone involved, and if you didn’t love it you can shut up about it. Those legumes or vegetables or whatever they are delicious, leave em’ alone and just enough that magic that was Lentil Night.

1.) The meningitis outbreak:
The outbreak was scary but also added some intrigue to the drab, seasonally-depressed lives we led this winter. Empty dining halls and worried text from our mothers asking us not to make out with anyone who looked like they might be dying were two things that defined this time. While not ideal in the slightest, it’s hard not to includes something as sick as disease on our list of favorites.

A lot happened this year, but those bees… oh my god, right?
